New Study Shows How Marijuana Affects Riding A Bike — The Results Are Amazing

While anti-pot pundits regularly harp on the unfounded and largely made up fear that marijuana use creates dangerously impaired car drivers, scientists in Germany and Australia have quietly come up with a solution that entirely bypasses the automobile-marijuana debate.

The solution: ride a bicycle!

The group of researchers has just published the results of a study that looked at whether or not smoking ganja affects peoples’ abilities to ride a bike—and what they found is amazing.

In the experiment, scientists tested the cycling skills of 14 adults who self-identified as regular pot smokers.

To begin with, the bikers rode through an obstacle course completely sober. Then they did it again after smoking one joint, then another joint, and then a third joint.

“Hardly any coordinative disturbances could be detected under the influence of high or very high THC concentrations,” the reporters wrote.

“In summary,” they concluded, “only a few driving faults were observed even under the influence of very high THC concentrations. A defined THC concentration that leads to an inability to ride a bicycle cannot be presented.”

Put simply, the cyclists were more or less unfazed by pot—even after smoking three joints!

“On average, there is no increase in the number of demerits after the cannabis consumption,” the report explained.

The scientists working on the project reported that, at absolute worst, “the test subjects showed only slight distinctive features that can be documented using a medial test routinely run for persons under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”

This is good news for cyclists of all stripes: bike messengers, road racers, mountain bikers, hardcore commuters, and casual cruisers.

Now you can enjoy the many benefits of both cannabis and cycling at the exact same time. Get high, enjoy a little fresh air, help cut back on pollution, get a little exercise—sounds like a match made in stoner’s heaven.
