Celebrities Medicinal Marijuana

Many celebrities are using their status to inform the public about the benefits of medicinal marijuana, how it has improved their lives, and in some cases even saved their lives. Leslie Mann’s revelation on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that she uses medicinal marijuana to treat her insomnia reflects an increasingly open attitude Hollywood expresses towards medicinal weed. Here are some other celebrities who toke for better health.

In June 2012, Tommy Chong revealed that he had prostate cancer. Rather than undergo a risky and expensive procedure, Chong opted to try an alternate approach. Using a program of specific foods and hash oil, Chong’s cancer went into remission.

This June, Chong explained on his Facebook page that his cancer had returned. “I’m doing the chemo/radiation dance now, but thanks to pot I’m enjoying it. Headphones, music and good bud – I’m good to go.”

After having hip surgery in 2013, Lady Gaga began using medicinal marijuana to manage her pain. Instead of taking time off to heal, she continued to tour, smoking copious amounts of ganja to deal with the pain.

“I was just numbing, numbing, numbing myself and then sleeping it off and then getting on stage, killing it in pain, then getting off and smoking, smoking, smoking, not knowing what the pain was.”

Gaga reported smoking as much as 15 joints a day to manage her pain. Once the surgery had fully healed, she quit cold turkey. As she puts it, “now I smoke a little bit at night, just you know, for fun – but not to cope. That’s the difference.”

Morgan Freeman has long been an outspoken supporter of legalization. “Never give up the ganja,” Freeman said in a 2003 interview. After sustaining long term injuries from a near-fatal crash in 2008, Freeman began using medicinal marijuana.

“I have fibromyalgia pain in this arm,” he said in an interview, “and the only thing that offers any relief is marijuana,”

Freeman continued, saying, “They’re talking about kids who have grand mal seizures, and they’ve discovered that marijuana eases that down to where these children can have a life. That right there, to me, says, ‘Legalize it across the board!’”
