Does Cannabis Cure Cancer?

Cannabis goes by many names: Pot, grass, weed, hemp, cannabis, hash, marihuana, ganja, and a dozen others. But regardless of what you call it, the healing powers are undeniable, and more health professionals are now questioning medical history. Does cannabis cure cancer?

Cannabis is grown all over the world. It produces a balm containing compounds called cannabinoids. Some cannabinoids such as THC, have psychoactive reactions in the brain, while others, such as CBD, do not.

For thousands of years, cannabis and cannabinoids have been used for medical purposes, and today cannabis is becoming more and more popular as a method to treat a wide variety of cancers.

Cannabis and cannabinoids have been shown to relieve pain, relieve nausea and vomiting, increase appetite, decrease anxiety and lower inflammation–all of the typical symptoms associated with cancer.

Although the use of medicinal cannabis is not yet legal in all 50 states, a growing number of states recognize the health benefits of cannabis, and they are passing laws to legalize medical cannabis.

Well, does cannabis cure cancer?

Researchers have found that the molecules that bind cannabinoids are the same molecules in brain cells and nerve cells throughout the body.

When cannabinoid molecules interact with the brain and the body, the cannabinoid helps decrease inflammation, block cell growth, prevent the growth of blood vessels that supply tumors and relieve muscle tremors and spasms.

Research continues to find evidence of the healing powers of cannabis.

One study conducted by the Molecular Cancer Therapeutics found that cannabinoids may lessen the growth and the spread of rumors of metastatic breast cancer.

According to the American Cancer Society, when cannabis is inhaled it can be helpful in the treatment of neuropathic pain, which is pain caused by damaged nerves.

Inhaled cannabis has also been shown to increase appetite and prevent weight loss in patients with HIV.

According to the National Cancer Institute, there are numerous studies currently being conducted to further explore the curing affects of cannabis.

One study is researching the use of oral CBD pills to treat tumors, and another study is researching the use of THC and CBD oral spray to treat glioblastoma multiforme, a fast-growing brain tumor.

So, does cannabis cure cancer?!?

Despite today’s research and the medical studies, and even though cannabis has been used in herbal remedies for centuries, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved cannabis or cannabinoids for use as a cancer treatment.

Although this is discouraging, progress continues to be made, and things are moving in the right direction.

Fortunately, two cannabinoids are approved by the FDA for the treatment of chemotherapy-0related vomiting and nausea.
