PTSD Cannabis Study Is Looking For War Vet Volunteers

If you’re a war veteran with PTSD or a similar traumatic brain injury you could qualify for free weed compliments of a new research project.

If you’re a war veteran with PTSD you could participate in a groundbreaking new study. A group of researchers is trying to figure out if cannabis can help treat PTSD symptoms. Participants in the study will be given weekly supplies of medical cannabis. They’ll also be asked to track their experiences using it to treat their symptoms.

The Details

Thanks to a $2.2 million grant from the state of Colorado, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) is doing a study to see if cannabis can treat PTSD symptoms. This project is the first real study into the subject.

The plan is to study 76 combat veterans over a 12 week period. Each veteran in the experiment will be given enough cannabis each week to smoke up to 1.8 grams per day. That’s roughly the equivalent of two joints a day.

After smoking, participants will use an iPad to document their use. They’ll track sleep quality and write about their general experiences with cannabis. They’ll also make a short video recording each time they smoke.

Researchers will conduct a series of additional tests to track other important health data. At the end of it all, they hope to start figuring out if cannabis can be used as an effective way to treat PTSD.

Who Qualifies?

Researchers are looking for war veterans who are dealing with PTSD. The injury needs to be officially diagnosed with a disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Besides that, the ideal candidate should be in good health. To qualify, you should already have received some sort of treatment for PTSD.
