New video evidence released this week reveals that cops conducted a vaginal search after smelling weed during a routine traffic stop. The woman involved in the incident is hoping that the video will reopen the sexual assault case against the officers who searched her.

Charnesia Corley was out driving on the night of June 20, 2015, when two Texas police officers pulled her over. According to reports, Corley, a black woman and college student, had no criminal history or past trouble with law enforcement.

Yet the cops on the scene were determined to find something incriminating. Audio of the arrest revealed one of the officers say, “Oh we are going to find something, even if we have to put our hands on her.”

After a preliminary search produced nothing, the officers did indeed put their hands on her.

In a dashcam video recording of the search, officers body slammed Corley, stuck her head under the car, and yanked off her pants. In other words, the police stripped Corley and left her naked in a gas station parking lot.

After that, Corley became the victim of what her Attorney Sam Cammack called “rape by cop.”

Cammack described what took place in the video: “They then took Miss Corley and placed both ankles behind her ears spread eagle position and started to search for something in Miss Corley’s cavity in her vaginal area.”

On the video, the entire ordeal lasts more than eleven minutes before Corley is allowed to stand and cover herself.

All of this happened, according to the officers, because they suspected Corley was in possession of marijuana. Ultimately, the cops said they recovered just 0.2 grams of cannabis. That amount is a misdemeanor offense in Texas.

Cops Who Conducted Vaginal Search After Smelling Weed Could Face New Trial

Prosecutors suddenly dropped the initial charges against the police officers a day before the case was to go to trial. In light of the controversial decision, the dash cam footage was released just this week.

Corley and Cammack hope the new video evidence will lead to a new trial. Additionally, Cammack has called for a special prosecutor in the case. Corley is suing Harris County in Federal Court for violating her civil rights.

Harris County prosecutor Natasha Sinclair acknowledges the police officers made bad decisions in their conduct. But according to sources, she expressed doubt that the officers’ behavior constituted a criminal offense.

But Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) policies make it clear that the strip and cavity search carried out by the officers that day did not follow procedure.

The new video evidence, which went public on Monday, may lead to civil charges against the HCSO. Corley said she wants justice for the sexual assault she suffered at the hands of two male officers. As Corley explained to local sources: “They’re supposed to protect you. They’re supposed to keep you safe, not rape you. That’s how I feel. I feel like I was raped.”
