Does Jake Gyllenhaal Smoke Weed?

So does Jake Gyllenhaalsmoke weed? Take a look at what we managed to find out about one of Hollywood’s most prominent lead men.

You’re probably wondering: Does Jake Gyllenhaal smoke weed? Gyllenhaal’s down-to-earth personality suggests he could be a candidate to smoke some cannabis. But it’s not entirely clear. We decided to find out for ourselves whether or not Donnie Darko himself enjoys the occasional toke or two. Take a look at what we found.

Who is Jake Gyllenhaal?

Gyllenhaal was essentially born into the filmmaking world. His mother was a screenwriter and producer, while his father was a director. His older sister, Maggie, is also an actress. She has appeared in hit movies such as “The Dark Knight” and “Donnie Darko,” alongside her brother.

Gyllenhaal’s first role came in the movie “City Slickers,” where he played Billy Crystal’s son. He later played small roles in a couple of his father’s movies: “A Dangerous Woman” and “Homegrown.”

Gyllenhaal’s first major role and breakout performance came in the 1998 film “October Sky.” His second starring role was in the 2001 film “Donnie Darko.” The movie was far from a box office success, but it later became a cult-classic.

That year, he also starred in the comedy “Bubble Boy,” which was received mostly negative reviews. Gyllenhaal later starred in “Highway” and “The Good Girl,” acting alongside Jennifer Aniston.

Gyllenhaal also starred in the 2004 blockbuster “The Day After Tomorrow” and began to receive more promising roles. In 2005, he was featured in a string of critically acclaimed films including “Jarhead,” “Proof,” and “Brokeback Mountain.”

Gyllenhaal was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in “Brokeback Mountain” but eventually lost out to George Clooney.

Other films Gyllenhaal has starred in include “Zodiac” (2007), “Brothers” (2009), “End of Watch” (2012), “Enemy” (2013), “Southpaw” (2015), “Nocturnal Animals” (2016), “Life” (2017), and most recently, the Netflix film “Okja.”

Gyllenhaal is also an accomplished theater actor and has been praised for his work off the camera.

Puff or Pass?

Does Jake Gyllenhaal Smoke Weed?

So back to the question at hand: Does Jake Gyllenhaal smoke weed? The actor hasn’t been as candid about his use as some celebrities have. But we managed to find some evidence that proves Gyllenhaal could, in fact, be a cannabis user.

Example A: His much-publicized breakup with actress Reese Witherspoon back in 2010. According to sources, Witherspoon broke things off because of Gyllenhaal’s weed-smoking habit. According to celebrity gossip reporter Janet Charlton: “An acquaintance of Reese and Jake acknowledges that they were very smitten with each other for quite awhile and seemed perfectly matched. ”

She continued: “Unfortunately, Jake had a habit that Reese could not live with, and he wouldn’t give it up. He smoked way too much. And we’re not talking nicotine here. Not only did it rub Reese the wrong way, but she worried about her children being exposed to his bad habits. So, regretfully, she moved on.”

Additionally, there have been reports of Gyllenhaal smoking weed in public. Back in 2015, it was reported Gyllenhaal partied with Jay-Z, Floyd Mayweather, Rihanna, and Fabolous.

According to the The New York Post, “There was a lot of weed smoking happening in the private room, too.” While it’s not clear whether or not Gyllenhaal was one of the people smoking, it’s more than likely considering past events.

Final Hit: Does Jake Gyllenhaal Smoke Weed?

Although Gyllenhaal hasn’t admitted it himself, it’s pretty clear that he’s a weed smoker. He’s been subject to a few cannabis-related rumors in the past, so we’re going to have to assume he tokes.

It’s not unusual for actors and artists to smoke to increase their creativity, and it looks like Gyllenhaal is no exception. Don’t worry Jake, no one’s judging.
