Does Carrie Underwood Smoke Weed?

Does Carrie Underwood smoke weed? Just because she’s an “All-American Girl” doesn’t mean she can’t dabble in some fine product once in awhile.

If you’ve made your way to this page, you’re wondering one thing: Does Carrie Underwood smoke weed? Let’s let Jesus take the wheel (see what we did there?) and find out.

Who is Carrie Underwood?

Carrie Marie Underwood was born on March 10, 1983 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The country music songstress first caught the attention of radio execs as a teen. She first scored an audition with Capitol Records. From there, the precocious Underwood eventually snagged a contract with the label—until it was unexpectedly canceled.

But fate gave her a second chance. Underwood eventually grabbed everyone’s attention as a contender on American Idol. She appeared in the show’s fourth season. After becoming a fan favorite, Underwood went on to nab first place.

Since then, she’s been on a meteoric rise to international acclaim. She’s won a number of awards, including a slew of Grammys and CMAs. Not too shabby.

Puff or Pass?

Critics described Underwood’s song “Smoke Break” as “an ode to the hard working closet smoker and drinker who despite claiming to avoid bad habits, admits to partaking in a bit of vice every once.” In fact, that song could conceivably be about weed.

These same critics noted that the track was released during the height of the “country pot ode” trend. Other country singers like resident rebel Kasey Musgraves and Miranda Lambert’s musical side-project The Pistol Annies, were unabashedly releasing songs about their unapologetic cannabis consumption. Time-wise and context-wise, interpreting the country darling’s smoke break as a toke break is arguable.

But then again, there’s the matter of the lyrics themselves: “She said, I don’t smoke, but sometimes I need a long drag. Yeah, I know it might sound bad, but sometimes I need a smoke break.”

It’s never explained as to whether the smokable leaf in the song is of the tobacco or weed variety. Considering how often nicotine sticks and chew are featured in the country oeuvre, the former seems more likely than the latter.

We can say, however, that the singer-songwriter has definitely been around the stuff. In a 2008 interview with People, Underwood was asked if she had ever been to a wild celeb party, and if she had ever seen anything that left her agog.

“Not really,” the star replied, nonplussed. “I went out one time in New York and you could smell marijuana. I’ve honestly never seen anything other than marijuana.”

Talk about a shrug for the ages. So, what’s the ruling? Does Carrie Underwood smoke weed?

Sadly, there isn’t enough evidence to say if Underwood enjoys the odd doob or two. If she does, then she simply doesn’t talk about it. But then again, you never know.
