MTV Greenlights Sequel Of Method Man And Redman’s ‘How High’ Movie

After almost two decades of waiting, we’ll finally get a chance to see the sequel to 2001’s classic stoner comedy.

The landscape of the cannabis industry has dramatically shifted in recent years. One thing that hasn’t is the need for some good ol’ fashioned stoner comedy. If anything, weed’s legality has opened the doors for some new comedic avenues to explore.

We’re certainly not in favor of returning to the dark ages of pot prohibition, but there’s no doubt that the stigma surrounding the plant made for some pretty hilarious cult classics like Super Troopers, Dazed and Confused, and Half Baked. We’ve already seen a Super Troopers sequel come to fruition this year, but it looks like we’re going to be getting another classic stoner comedy follow-up. According to reports, MTV has officially ordered a sequel to Method Man And Redman’s ‘How High’ movie.

MTV Orders Sequel Of Method Man And Redman’s ‘How High’ Movie

MTV and Universal 1440 Entertainment are teaming up to continue the story of an iconic stoner flick. Longtime Family Guy writers Artie Johann and Sean Ries will be contributing to the sequel.

According to Deadline.com, the sequel will once again feature Method Man and Redman’s titular characters, as a pair of “young but business-savvy stoners,” who accidentally uncover a huge government cover-up while looking for their missing weed.

It’s unclear what other roles the two members of the Wu-Tang Clan will have in the project. So far, we know the film will feature one familiar face behind the scenes. Shauna Garr, a producer in the first film, will now assume executive producer responsibilities.

Redman spoke about a potential sequel at the High Times Cannabis Cup and he even told MTV News that he had been penned a story draft years ago. However, it’s unclear if Redman’s drafts made it into the confirmed sequel.

“I wrote that shit on 2/9/14, the storyboard, plot summary, I can’t even show y’all that right now,” he said.”The How High 2, hopefully, we could do that under Universal, if not, we gonna do our own movie under our own shit and it will be heavily marijuana-related.”

Regardless, the new movie should bring on some much-needed nostalgia for today’s ever-expanding weed culture. The project won’t be hitting theatres but there will be a lot of talent behind it. We hope there’s as much cannabis as promised in the upcoming sequel. The film will not be debuting in theaters. As of now, there is no release date but shooting will begin in Atlanta this August.
