“Sports Cannabis” Could Be The Next Frontier in Marijuana

“Sports cannabis” is quite possibly the newest phrase to enter the cannabis dictionary, and it could very well be the next frontier in marijuana use.

“Sports cannabis” is the term used by former NBA star Clifford Robinson to describe a line of marijuana products he’s designing specifically for athletes.

Robinson has become something of an icon when it comes to athletes who use marijuana.

He’s been increasingly outspoken in his support of marijuana, and claims it could be especially helpful to athletes who regularly deal with pain and injuries.

To celebrate his support of marijuana, Robinson dubbed himself “Uncle Spliffy.”

But it appears that’s not just a nickname. It’s also the name of the brand new cannabis company he’s created. Uncle Spliffy plans to cater specifically to athletes.

According to the company’s brand new website, Robinson and his company don’t want to just sell marijuana in dispensaries. They want to create an entirely new market for cannabis and cannabis products.

And that market is the world of athletics.

“Uncle Spliffy is the premier, first to market, Sports Cannabis brand in the world,” the website says.

It goes on to describe its forthcoming line of marijuana products as “created by athletes, for athletes.”

And while the website doesn’t provide too many details about what sports cannabis is all about, some of Robinson’s past comments do.

Back in January, Robinson said that cannabis could play a huge role in the lives of athletes.

“I think I’ve always been an advocate for cannabis,” he said.

“Cannabis is definitely a more positive alternative to pharmaceuticals at the end of the day.”

“When you talk about guys playing on a professional level, there’s a lot of physical and mental stress that comes with that. And to have something available to you that has health benefits, I don’t see the issue with it myself.”

Robinson’s creation of “sports cannabis” is the latest in a growing movement among high profile athletes to tap into the potential health benefits of marijuana.

But these efforts have so far run into problems.

That’s because professional sports leagues like the NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB don’t let their players use marijuana. The same is true for college athletes.

In the past few months, however, there’s been a string of athletes and former athletes speaking up in favor of marijuana.

At a cannabis conference, former NFL star Ricky Williams said marijuana could give football players a safer way to deal with injuries than the prescription painkillers they’re usually given.

Similarly, a whole group of former NFL players joined together to urge the league to let players to use medical marijuana.
