The 5 Most Anti-Weed States of America

Legalizing marijuana has been an uphill battle in the state of Texas. Much like the residents of Mississippi, the residents of Texas might be swayed by their government officials. State Senator Donna Campbell who is respected as a physician and politician in Texas opposes marijuana legalization. While a veteran was making his case for why vets need medical marijuana, Campbell interrupted him by saying, “we already legalized medical cannabis.”

However, this is only partially true and out of context. Texas Legislature made cannabis in it’s oil form legal but only for patients with severe epilepsy who are suffering from uncontrollable seizures. This does nothing for veterans suffering from PTSD so it is unclear why she interrupted him to state something irrelevant to his case.

Campbell told people trying to convince her that marijuana should be legalized that it’s going to take overwhelming scientific data for her to endorse legal marijuana.  According to Jason Miller from the Houston chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana laws, it is unlikely that Texas lawmakers could push a bill legalizing recreational marijuana without passing a medical marijuana bill first.
