A number of blockchain-centric events have been taking place in New York for what some are calling “Blockchain Week.” Blockchain technology is the digitized, decentralized, public ledger of all cryptocurrency transactions according to Investopedia. One company called Ripple invited attendees of an event hosted by CoinDesk to a community-building afterparty where Snoop Dogg performed and got high with the crypto community.
Snoop Dogg is one of the most influential figures in the cannabis space. He’s been promoting cannabis use since he started rapping. Now, he has his own weed line called Leafs by Snoop and he is a part owner of the largest grow operation in the world, Canopy Growth. The company recently applied to be the first cannabis cultivation company on the New York Stock Exchange.
What Is Ripple?
Ripple Labs Inc. is the creator of XRP, the third largest cryptocurrency in the world. The company invited both fans and skeptics to their after party in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan.
According to Bloomberg, one attendee grilled Ripple for having a cryptocurrency that relies on banks instead of disrupting them. Other attendees questioned the overall legitimacy of the digital currency. On the other hand, many longtime XRP coin holders came to the cryptocurrency’s defense.
Snoop Dogg Arrives In Doggy-Style
When all was said and done, attendees from both sides of the argument came together for a special performance by Snoop Dogg. The D O double G strolled in at around nine p.m. with his dog-costumed mascot and a posse of dancers sporting sparkling rhinestone bras.
Snoop may have recently encountered his first pine cone during a trip to Martha Stewart’s home in Westchester County but cryptocurrency is nothing new to him. He previously acknowledged the crypto community when he tweeted “my next record available in bitcoin n delivered in a drone,” back in 2013.
However, the rapper didn’t choose to flex his crypto knowledge during the event. Instead, he got the audience to share the interests he is best known for.
“So what we get drunk, so what we smoke weed,” the audience sang along to the classic collaboration between Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa.
Closer to the end of the show, he gave the crowd three options: “Do you wanna a) hang out with me, b) drink with me or c) smoke some weed with me?”
It seems like most audience members recalled the old college saying “when in doubt circle c” because the smell of weed quickly spread across the venue.
Snoop Dogg has never been shy about his love for weed, not even in an audience filled with professionals in the financial-tech space. Fortunately, the audience was into it the vibe and they smoked up with Snoop until he departed.
