Infused Ghee Butter Recipe: Simple Yet Refined

Give a person an edible, and they’re high for a day. Teach a person to bake infused edibles, and you get them high for life.

The web is rife with different cannabis edibles recipes and tons of conflicting information. Even though the process of decarboxylating THC and infusing it in fatty acids is chemically fairly straightforward, there’s a bunch of competing approaches and different advice.

In this post, you’ll find the recipe for Ghee Butter, arguably the greatest cannabutter.

Why is it so great? Ghee Butter is a wonderfully delicious butter originating from India. It’s a style of clarified butter renowned for its flavor, nutritional benefits, and medicinal qualities. Basically, it’s the perfect cannabis companion!

Here’s all you need to whip up your own batch of delicious Ghee cannabutter.

  • ¼ oz of Cannabis
  • ¼ lb (1 stick) of Unsalted Butter
  • Cheesecloth
  • Rubberband
  • Airtight container (Mason Jar)
  • Cooking Pot (Double Boiler)

Step 1: Activate your THC

Some people debate the necessity of this step, arguing that heating the butter in the baking process is enough to activate the THC in the cannabis. But it’s sound advice to take the time to cook your cannabis at the low, low temperature needed to activate the THC. Weed is a terrible thing to waste!

Decarboxylation (decarbing) is the activation process which releases the psychoactive properties of cannabis.

Start by preheating the oven to 240° F. While your oven slowly grows hotter, begin to break up the cannabis flowers/buds into smaller pieces with your hands or grinder. Take a second to appreciate the smell of those broken down buds. Now, place the broken up cannabis pieces evenly on a baking sheet.

Place baking sheet in the oven for 45 minutes and flip every 10 minutes in order to evenly toast.

Step 2: Prep the butter

While the cannabis decarbs in the oven, melt the ¼ lb butter in a pan (or double boiler that will prevent the butter from burning) using low heat.

As the butter melts, some froth will form on the top. You will want to remove the froth by skimming the top with a spoon and stirring occasionally. Repeat until no more froth appears and you’re left with nothing but a golden elixir. Lower heat to a simmer.

Next, remove your baking sheet from the oven and take a look. Your decarb’ed cannabis should be dark in color now, a medium brown, and dried out. Allow to cool for a few minutes before removing from the tray.

Drum roll… Time to combine your decarboxylated cannabis and the golden melted butter. Slowly add the cooked cannabis to the simmering butter.

Keep the temp on low, and stir the mixture to evenly blend. Cook for about an hour, stirring gently every fifteen minutes.

Step 3: Strain your Ghee

Your mixture should now be dark brown and gooey. Line your cheesecloth in your airtight container (or mason jar) and secure it with a rubberband.

Pour the infused Ghee mixture out of the pan and into your airtight container. Allow to strain and cool for a few minutes.

Don’t waste your Ghee! After it’s cooled for a few minutes, take a spoon and squeeze out every bit of Ghee from the cheesecloth. This may seem laboring and tedious, but you’ll be happy you got every bit possible once you’re finished.

Step 4: Enjoy Your Infused Ghee Butter

Congratulations! You are now the proud owner and maker of a mason jar of delicious Ghee Butter, the world’s greatest cannabis butter known to man.

Now that you have Ghee Butter you can use it to make cookies, chocolate, cupcakes, pies, and any other of your favorite desserts into cannabis edibles.

After all the hard work you put into the cooking process, I think you deserve a quick taste. Go ahead. You earned it.
