It seems like there are an endless number of ways to ingest cannabis. Smoking, vaping, edibles, food, soda… you name it, it’s been tried. Well, it’s time to add another ‘How-to’ to the list: Weed tea. This guide will help you prepare a potent tea for your classy drinking pleasure.

The Benefits of Weed-Infused Tea

How to Make Potent Weed Tea

The “go-to” reason for many people to gravitate towards options like weed-infused tea is to avoid the health risks associated with inhaling smoke. This holds especially true for older users, who rely on cannabis for its health benefits and not its high. Many of these people not only do not enjoy smoking, but their aged lungs have a hard time handling it.

Now while this weed-infused tea may be new to many users, it has a long history. You may be able to guess one of its countries of origin… that would be Jamaica, while the other is India. These countries accepted and traditionally used weed-infused tea to aid in the morning sickness and stress induced by pregnancy in women. It is now much more widely used for similar ailments, however, its horizon of health benefits has greatly widened over time.

Weed-infused tea also carries therapeutic health benefits. Because it is ingested through the digestive tract rather than the lungs, the effects work more slowly. This slow buildup has time to focus on various health-related ailments and provides comfort for many different symptoms. Not only this but the ingestions through the digestive tract also generally results in longer effects. Some reports say anywhere from 4 to 8 hours of relief can be found through this method of ingestion.

Getting Started

How to Make Potent Weed Tea

As you can probably already imagine, making weed-infused tea is a fairly simple process. Regardless, here are a few important things to pay attention to when preparing it.

You’ll Need:

  • A tea bag and mug
  • Boiling Water
  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 1/2 ounce of cannabis (fresh)
  • Cheesecloth

Now, this next step can be skipped if you have readily available cannabutter, however, if you do not, follow the instructions below to prepare it.

Heat two cups of water in a pot and add in your butter and cannabis. The cannabis can be raw or ground, it will decarboxylate fine either way. Once the butter has melted, let the mixture simmer for 2 to 3 hours. Keep an eye on it as to prevent burning. Once it is ready, let it cool and then proceed to strain it into a container. After this, let it refrigerate overnight so the butter is able to separate from the water.

From this point forward, you brew your tea just as you would any normal cup. Add your favorite tea bag to your mug along with 1 teaspoon of cannabutter. Add your boiling water, allow the butter to melt, then steep away!

Now you may be thinking, I thought I was just going to add ground up weed to a teabag and steep it! Well technically you could do that, but to decarboxylate the weed you’d have to keep your tea at a consistent 212 degrees Fahrenheit while continually steeping for an hour and a half.

When using cannabutter, not only is the prep time less than 10 minutes, but you can control the potency of your tea based on how much butter you add. You can throw two spoonfuls in and get yourself stoned, or you can do the recommended teaspoon and experience the relief and therapy that you need. Just don’t forget the crumpets!
