Growing marijuana and engineering unique cannabis strains are highly refined arts in the world of weed. But so is coming up with names for all these new strains and hybrids. In honor of the wordplay wizards who come up with the often bizarrely elegant names of the strains we smoke, here’s our favorite cannabis strain names.
1. Blockhead
Blockhead is aptly named. An indica-dominant strain, blockhead is known to pack a pretty serious punch, especially for anyone with a low tolerance. Smoking blockhead will temporarily turn you into a blockhead, and you’ll probably be stuck on the couch for the rest of the day.
2. Purple Urkle
Another indica-dominant strain, the purple urkle is believed to have originated somewhere in the legendary realms of California’s Humboldt County. Purple urkle is a “two-hitter-and-quitter,” meaning that a couple puffs and you’ll be sky high.
3. Girl Scout Cookies
Who doesn’t love Girl Scout cookies? Thin mints? Peanut Butter Patties? Caramel deLites? The Girl Scout Cookies strain is known for its fruity flavor, and gives users a heavy body buzz that can sometimes last all day.
4. Afgooey
One of those strangely accurate names that sounds like it was probably coined just after a serious smoke session, afgooey is an indica-dominant hybrid that ranks super high on the sleepy scale. A few hits and the extremely powerful body high will turn you into a happy glob of goo.
5. Skywalker OG
Since the world’s in the midst of a Star Wars craze thanks to the recent release of Episode VII, we’ve got to include Skywalker OG. This strain is known to produce a pretty mellow high that can be extremely pleasurable for many smokers.

7. Schnazzleberry
We’re not sure if the name Schnazzleberry has anything to do with Super Troopers’ famous line, “the schnazzberries taste like schnazzberries,” but it very well could. This one is a great all-around strain, known for effectively treating depression, pain, insomnia, appetite loss, and more.
8. Alaskan Thunderf*ck
Sometimes called Manatuska Thunderf*ck since it originates from Alaska’s Manatuska Valley, the name pretty much says it all. This is a powerful strain that will leave you in a happy daze.
9. Donkey Dick
A Vancouver Island original, this skunky strain gives users an immediate indica-style high, leaving them happy and mellow.
10. Super Sour Diesel
A sativa-dominant cross between sour diesel and super silver haze, super sour diesel tends to produce serious head highs. Many users experience feelings of euphoria, creativity, and for some, a little paranoia.
