Parents Are Furious About Cannabis Energy Drink

Parents are outraged that stores throughout western Australia are selling Cannabis Energy, an energy drink made with hemp seed extract.

Cannabis Energy markets itself as an alternative to energy drinks like Red Bull and Rockstar. The company calls it a “high-quality energy drink with a twist,” using the advertising tagline, “one taste and you’ll be hooked.”

The drink is already available in the U.S., New Zealand, England, Canada, Mexico, and several EU countries. Parents were unhappy with the new product on the shelves in western Australia.

According to the Daily Mail, parents across the country complained about the drink, claiming that its advertising and presence in stores would make cannabis consumption appear too mainstream.

After the drink appeared in a local Perth supermarket, Simone Calnon took her complaint public.

“The drink will make children think marijuana is ‘normal,'” Calnon says.

“I spoke to one of the workers about it and she giggled and said, ‘It’s just a drink,'” Calnon tells reporters at The West Australian. “It seems that cannabis is already a cultural norm.”

In response to Calnon, many have pointed out that the drink doesn’t actually contain THC, the primary psychoactive ingredient in cannabis. Cannabis Energy Drink is made using hemp seed extract, a active ingredient legal for consumption in Australia.

Parents will be relieved to hear that there is zero THC in the new beverage. On the flip side, this could be a bit disappointing for stoners hoping to get high from the drink.
