Step 6: Move Into the Flowering Phase
After your plants have completed the vegetative phase, it’s time to move them into the flowering phase. If you are growing outdoors, this will happen naturally. As the long days of summer give way to the shorter days of the fall, the decreased light will trigger your plants to start putting out flowers.
If you are growing indoors, you need to scale back the amount of light you give your plants each day. During the vegetative phase, you should give your plants at least 18 hours of light per day. To initiate the flowering phase, cut it back to 12 hours per day.
