From 1977 to 1981, in between Nixon and Reagan, Carter brought some rationality into the national conversation about cannabis.

Many people are confident that Carter smoked cannabis while in office.

They base this opinion on his uniquely progressive stance on cannabis prohibition.

Carter wanted to get rid of the federal laws that made it a crime to possess anything under one ounce of marijuana.

The rumor that Carter smoke weed, however, likely has to do with his son Chip.

It is a fact that Chip did toke up on the White House roof. One time, Chip puffed with none other than country legend Willie Nelson.

10. George W. Bush

It’s well known that George W. Bush, son of the staunch anti-pot President George H.W. Bush, had a penchant for cocaine.

And if you like cocaine, you’re probably not unfamiliar with cannabis.

But W. tried to keep his pot-smoking past concealed from the public record.

He claimed he was worried about younger people who look up to him taking it as a bad example.

“I didn’t behave that well when I was younger,” Bush told a live studio audience on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno back in 2014. “Like I might’ve smoked somethin’, for example,” Bush went on amidst laughter from the audience.

However, George W. Bush accidentally admitted to his biographer that he had smoked cannabis regularly as a young man.
