Demetria Devonne Lovato, better known as Demi, is a singer, songwriter, actor, and activist. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, her career started when she was a child on “Barney and Friends.” In 2008, she starred in the Disney Channel original movie “Camp Rock.” Soon after, she released her first album titled “This Is Me.”

While her acting career has been solid, people know her more for her musical prowess. Lovato has released five studio albums and plans to release a sixth this year. Critics and industry titans have praised her music, and she’s appeared on various TV shows, like “The X-Factor” and “America’s Next Top Model.”

In her personal life, Lovato is a vocal advocate and activist. Her biggest cause is mental health. Spurred by her own struggles with eating disorders, bullying, and substance abuse, the newly confident singer has dedicated her life to improving the lives of others who suffer from similar issues. She even spoke at the 2016 Democratic Convention. How cool is that?

She’s also unwavering in her support of the LGBTQ community. In 2014, she had the honor of being the Grand Marshal at the Los Angeles Pride Parade. Two years later, in 2016, she even won the GLAAD Vanguard Award. So does Demi Lovato smoke weed? Does she find the time in her busy schedule of art and activism?

Does Demi Lovato Smoke Weed?

Does Demi Lovato smoke weed? The answer is complicated. In 2015, she posted a photo on her Instagram account for 4/20 which featured herself, Miley Cyrus, and Joe Jonas. The caption read “In honor of our former escapades, I thought you’d like this to remember our first blaze…Happy #420.”

It was a nice display of humor, considering that the Jonas brother publicly stated that she and Cyrus pressured him into trying weed just a year before! Speaking of Cyrus, Lovato expressed that she was proud of her friend for her famous cannabis cessation in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

“I am really proud of Miley. I think that it helps people to know that there are people in the spotlight that have challenges, that are faced with very stressful lives…it helps to know that recovery is possible and it’s something that is so important to certain people like myself.”

Furthermore, Lovato recently celebrated five years of sobriety. During a 2016 interview with Refinery 29, Lovato admitted that she had a raging addiction to cocaine. She checked herself into rehab after punching a backup dancer during a tour with the Jonas Brothers. After rehab, she resided in a Los Angeles sober-living house.

Considering her history, the answer to this burning question is still up in the air. It’s possible that Lovato does not smoke weed anymore. For many people, sobriety includes all substances, even cannabis. Lovato has even said that she can’t go to parties anymore because the temptation to do drugs is too strong.

Even though cannabis can help people recover from eating disorders and other mental illnesses, it’s important to remember that it doesn’t help everyone. We all have our personal demons to overcome, and for some, those demons include relying on substances.
