5 Different Ways To Make A Weed Grinder

Looking for a grinder? What if you simply don’t live near any headshops? Have no fear. This article will show you 5 ways to make a grinder in a pinch.

3. Mesh Cup Holder

For this one, you’re going to need some simple pieces of office equipment. What you’re looking for is a metal mesh object, something like a pencil holder, a business card holder, or a paper holder. Whatever it is, it’s got to be fairly sturdy metal, and it’s got to be mesh. Metal mesh pencil holders like this probably work the best.

Now use the palm of your hand to press your herb through the metal mesh. As it gets squished through, the mesh will break it apart into nice little chunks, perfect for torching. You might also have some success placing your herb on a cutting board and rolling the pencil holder over it until it’s fully broken down.

4. Mesh Screen & Pill Container

This method is fairly similar to the one just described but might give you a big more control over your grind.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A small piece of metal mesh screen. You can get a piece of screen from stores like Home Depot, or out of an old window screen.
  • A cylindrical pill container.
  • A thick rubber band.
  • A kitchen utensil with a hard handle, something like a mixing spoon or spatula.

And here’s how it works:

If the mesh screen you’re using is dirty, wash it first. Once it’s clean, place it over the top of the open pill container. Now gently press it down about halfway into the container while keeping enough above the container to fold it down over the edge of the container. The mesh should now form a bowl shape that sits down inside the container. Use your rubber band to hold the screen in place.

Now place your nug into the bottom of the screen. Use the handle of the mixing spoon or spatula to gently but firmly press the herb through the openings of the mesh. Once it’s all passed through the mesh, remove the screen, and pour out the ground up herb. Don’t forget the kief that’s accumulated down at the bottom of the container.
