Watching Cannabis Art Time Lapses Is Mesmerizing

This artist makes rappers, animals and brand logos entirely out of weed all in the name of legalization.

Ever wanted to see your favorite (or least favorite) celebrity’s face made entirely out of weed? Cannabiscapes, a weed Instagram account with a cult following, will do that for you. But the artist behind these cannabis art time lapses does much more than create crazy accurate celebrity faces out of freshly ground bud. He’s on a mission to inspire people to get involved in legalization, one nug at a time.

Cannabis Art That Happened By Accident

Three years ago, a seasoned weed smoker set down his joint and spilled some weed. “When I came back to it a few minutes later to relight it, explained future Cannabiscapes founder Ty,  “I was like, that kinda looks like Snoop!” So he took a photo and sent it to his friends. Everyone loved it.

The next day, Ty did the same thing again, this time on purpose. “I made a picture with a joint as a dock with somebody fishing off of it with some trees, kind of the bank of a lake.” This time, he sent it to more people and got the same encouraging response.

Since then, Ty has built a weed Instagram showcasing the faces of pot celebrities, infamous politicians, and popular movie characters—all made out of weed. You can’t miss Princess Leah, Childish Gambino or Willie Nelson’s faces, all of which are impressively accurate, minus the green.

You can even watch them emerge from the herb in Cannabiscapes’ mesmerizing time lapse videos.

Cannabiscapes Made Berner’s Latest Album Cover

Cannabiscapes’ favorite and best-known project is his recent collaboration with rapper Berner. Last year, they worked together to create the cover for Berner’s album, The Big Pescado. It’s a close up of Berner’s face, made from some pretty high-quality herb, judging by the promo.

Weed Art To Inspire Social Change

Cannabiscapes may have started off as a joke between weed smoking friends but it has since come to symbolize a larger movement for social change.

Currently, Cannabiscapes is working with Florida Mission Zero, a non-profit dedicated to connecting veterans with cannabis medicine and education. The goal is to create compelling weed art that gets people involved in a veteran health. He added, “ideally, for every person that veteran get access to their medical cannabis.”

And this is only the beginning for Cannabiscapes. Considering his work depicting Pete Sessions—who is blocking marijuana legislation—out of weed stems, Ty said, “This is about us changing the conversation. If they’re not going to let us have it, we’re going to force it on them.”
